Greetings to all of you as we come together this weekend to celebrate the 75 year history of Our Lady of Refuge Parish. It is a remarkable history when you think about the role that our parish has played over the years in the community. Most of all it has been an avenue for growth in faith for all who have been a part of the parish and have worshipped here. Education has been central to its life as it has provided religious education programming to our young people as well as our adults. Our Lady of Refuge School is very proud of its accomplishments giving its students a firm foundation for learning and for the life long journey of faith. Numerous outreach programs have always been a part of our parish serving the needs of parishioners as well as the community at large. Christian service is a beautiful characteristic of our parish.
As we think back, we are reminded of all the people who have been a part of this parish. You think of charter members and all those who dedicated themselves to the success of our parish by sharing their talent, time, energy and generosity for its success. We are indeed grateful to all those wonderful people.
We also think of the pastors who have provided leadership to our parish. They are: Father Giles Bartol, Monsignor Thomas Jobs, Father Edwin Schroeder, Father Francis Dietz and Father William Murphy. We are aware of the many associate pastors, weekend assistants and deacons who have served our parish. I am very honored to be a part of this history knowing that our parish community will continue to build upon its legacy and spread the Good News of Jesus Christ.
I welcome all of you who have come this weekend to share in this happy occasion, especially former parishioners and employees who continue to share your love of our parish. A special thanks to Archbishop Allen Vigneron for celebrating our Anniversary Mass and appreciation for his leadership and his support of our parish.
Do enjoy our celebration as we give thanks to God and ask for the intercession of our Blessed Mother. Our parish has truly been blessed.
