Children’s Liturgy of the Word is looking for leaders

… to help out once a month

Liturgy of the Word with Children is a worship experience tailored for children ages 5 to 7 years old. This runs from September through May on Sunday’s at the 11:30 am Mass. The purpose is to engage the child’s interest in Scripture and allow the children to better understand the importance of reverence and prayer during the Liturgy. Children’s Liturgy of the Word will follow the basic structure of the Liturgy of the Word during Mass. After gathering in the church at the start of Mass for the Introductory Rites, the children process out of the church. The children will gather together to hear the readings from the lectionary, sing the Psalm, hear a brief homily, and join together in the prayers of the faithful. They receive a sheet that goes home. The children return to the assembly to join in celebrating the Liturgy of the Eucharist.

We encourage teens and adults to participate as leaders and assistants. If interested in this ministry, please join and observe one of the leaders at a session. Contact Denette Plant at 248.682.6381 for more details.

Catholic Faith Questions – May, the Month of Mary

Brought to you by the OLR Education Commission

For centuries, the Catholic Church has set aside the entire month of May to honor Mary, Our Blessed Mother of God. The custom spans both centuries and cultures, with roots going back to the ancient Greeks. In medieval times, the tradition of Tricesimum or “Thirty-Day Devotion to Mary,” came into being. During this period, Mary’s month and the month of May were combined, with special devotions to the Blessed Mother organized on each day throughout the month.

It’s common for our parishes to have daily recitation of the Rosary during May, erecting a May altar with Mary’s statue, and honoring Our Blessed Mother with a May crowning.

During this challenging time when we cannot physically be together in church, it is especially important for us to imitate our Blessed Mother’s virtue in our own lives. We can echo the traditions of the Church in our homes. Erect a prayer corner, no matter how fancy or simple it is. What matters is that it’s a special place dedicated for prayer to God. Give Mary a special spot in the prayer corner, with a statue or picture. Then crown Mary, with an actual or spiritual crown.

Our Blessed Mother cares for us day in and day out, without fail. She intercedes for us in our time of need, in all matters. We dedicate the month of May to Our Holy Mother Mary, and honor her with moving tributes of faith, love and prayer.

Bible Study – Begins September 10th!

Beginning September 10th we will be studying the Catholic Scripture Study’s books of The Book of Revelation for twenty lessons and Carl Olson’s Will Catholics Be Left Behind? for five lessons.

Come on Tuesday mornings from 9-10:30am or Wednesday evening from 7-8:30pm September 10th through May 21.

We are reminded to be grateful for Church Teaching, which reveals to us simple folk the great mysteries of our faith: “The last book of the New Testament is also probably the most difficult and misunderstood book of the Bible. This is due to the fact that almost everything described in Saint John’s version is symbolic of something else. The Early Church Fathers believed that the Book of Revelation was an icon on the Mass.

“Discover the beauty that unfolds each time we celebrate the Marriage Feast of the Lamb!” Revelation is understood only through the Catholic Teaching which we often take for granted, the teaching that is our mission to spread! Join us for Spirit filled fellowship and study at whatever depth suits you.

Something New in the Missal Pocket!!

Dear Parish Family,

Our Worship Commission is working hard to help deepen our spiritual experience at Mass. This weekend you will find an index of the prayers that we use throughout the Mass. The cards that were in the pockets have worn out and so we have replaced them with the pages numbers and prayers found in the missal. In the future we will utilize these pockets to bring information regarding the Mass, environment and tradition in hopes of making our prayer during Mass more meaningful and reverent.

Peace be with your spirit.
