Fr. Przemyslaw Nowak who has assisted me and our parish for the last three years will be leaving us. Fr. Nowak has made the decision to serve full time as a chaplain for the U.S. Army. He is to report for duty in early August to begin a three year term as a chaplain in Germany. He is very excited to make this commitment and I want to join with you, our parishioners in congratulating him and giving him support.
Our Lady of Refuge’s relationship with Fr. Nowak goes back a few years. He served as a transitional deacon in 2012-2013 during his last year as a seminarian at S.S. Cyril and Methodius Seminary (across the street). We were so happy when he was ordained a priest in 2013 for the Paterson, New Jersey diocese. After serving his diocese for a few years, he came back to be the vice rector at S.S. Cyril and Methodius Seminary and we were blessed to have him back to help with Masses, especially on the weekends.
There will be two receptions for him. The first will be after the 9:00am Mass at the Shrine Chapel on the Orchard Lake campus. Father will offer a Mass for Peace at that time on Saturday, July 24th. The other reception will be at Our Lady of Refuge Church after the 9:30am Mass that he will say on Sunday, July 25th. This will be an excellent time for all of us to wish him well as he sets out on this new venture.
Along with everyone else, I will miss him as I have appreciated his friendship and the extra ways that he has helped me with Masses and the Sacrament of Reconciliation. It was a delight to have him with us and as we wish him the best, we pray that our paths will cross again—right here at Our Lady of Refuge Parish.
