Knights of Columbus – Beginning the Fraternal Year
Msgr. A.X.M. Sharpe, Council #600 of Knights of Columbus kicked off the start of the 2020-21 year on July 28 with a dinner and general meeting at Pontiac Yacht Club on Cass Lake. Food from Princess Grille was enjoyed in the beautiful summer evening. Fellow knight, Kenny Ibrahim, owner of Princess Grille has provided meals to local hospital workers, police, and firefighters. Our council has helped to support that effort.
We started out the year welcoming in two members Gerald Arter, PGK transferring in from another Council and Seminarian Danny Whalen who recently completed his exemplification online. During this meeting the Msgr. A. X. M. Sharpe Council presented Seminarian Danny Whalen a check for $500 by newly elected Grand Knight Greg Zawalski. The Knights of Columbus launched the Refund Support Vocations Program (RSVP) in 1981. Under this program, local councils or assemblies can make an annual contribution of $500 or more to an individual seminarian to help with his seminary expenses.
After the meeting, the installation of officers was conducted under the direction of District Deputy Joe Langhauser who led the ceremonial Installation of Officers for the New Year. The ceremony itself was brief for members and their families that gathered for this symbolic ceremony and was followed by a social gathering afterwards.
The Knights of Columbus have become much more transparent in joining. We welcome anyone interested in learning about our organization are invited to our next general meeting on August 25 at 6:30 starting with refreshments before the 7:00 meeting. Knights of Columbus – The End of One Fraternal Year and Beginning of Another
The 2019/20 Fraternal Year ended with our June Membership Meeting held virtually with our members.
The Fraternal Year was another great year of accomplishments for our council. Pending review of our program accomplishments this year with the Supreme Office, MSGR. A. X. M. Sharpe is in position to be awarded Star Council for this year! This is a great accomplishment under the current quarantine circumstances when the world seems to have turned upside down. Due to the pandemic, Supreme reduced the quotas to achieve Star Council. It is the hard work of all the members who are witnesses to the strength and brotherhood of the council by their good works and actions. Congratulations fellow Brother Knights on a job well done!
New officers were elected to guide the council through our next fraternal year as we strive to achieve our goals and continue the mission of our Order. Thank you to those who accepted their nominations and stepped up to serve our council. Our new officers are:
Council Chaplain – Msgr. McEnhill
Grand Knight – Gregory Zawalski
Financial Secretary – Jason Fry
Deputy Grand Knight – Nick Greiwe
Chancellor – Daniel Schneble
Recorder – John May
Treasurer – Carl Godell
Advocate – Patrick Devine, PGK
Warden – Robert Harper
Inside Guard – Paul Schmidt, PGK
Outside Guard – Brad Leblanc
One Year Trustee – Gerald Arter, PGK

There are still great opportunities to join MSGR. A. X. M. Sharpe council with us, and it has never been easier. Supreme is now offering virtual online exemplifications during the pandemic. It is no more than a half hour in front of your computer monitor. If you want to be a part of this great organization and you are a Catholic male over 17-1/2 years old, think about joining our council. Please contact Grand Knight Greg Zawalski, email@example.com or Membership Director Greg Harris, PGK, 586-719-6302 / firstname.lastname@example.org to learn how to register and become a MSGR. A. X.
